WANdisco takes version control to the next level with SVN MultiSite 1.2

WANdisco, a provider of high availability solutions that’s making a name for itself in the Big Data space, is now simplifying version control for geographically dispersed teams with SVN MultiSite Plus 1.2. Like the company’s Non-Stop Hadoop offering, which recently got certified for Cloudera’s CDH4 distro, the software leverages homegrown active-active replication technology to make WAN-based environments more reliable.

WANdisco claims that SVN MultiSite Plus can reduce 90 percent of the communication overhead between client deployments of the popular Subversion revision management system. The latest version adds centralized configuration and integration SVN Access Control, a complementary tool that provides authorization, authentication and audit capabilities. The product packs a point-and-click interface that makes it easier for admins to implement and maintain the security policies that protect their organizations’ intellectual proprietary.

David Richards, the chairman and CEO of WANdisco, noted that “SVN MultiSite Plus is essential to any global development organization that needs to ensure continuous availability to their source code. As with all of our product releases, SVN MultiSite Plus 1.2 enhances performance, manageability and security, which are the top areas of concern for our customers.”

While bent on securing a foothold in the Hadoop community, WANdisco is still commitmented to version control, having acquired Subversion distributor TortoiseSVN.net earlier this year in a move to capture a bigger slice of the open source tool’s install base. Cloud automation specialist ServiceNow is pursuing an equally aggressive strategy with Configuration Automation, a newly launched solution that helps data center managers keep track of changes as they happen. The app automatically initiates governance processes whenever an admin updates the ServiceNow Configuration Management Database (CMDB) or submits a change request. It also provides cloud provisioning capabilities and integrates with Puppet to further reduce the amount of manual work involved.
