How IBM BlueMix simplifies software development in the cloud
IBM has added new services to its BlueMix platform as a service (PaaS) and said it’s actively exploring a different software development scale in the cloud.
IBM launched a number of new services to support BlueMix development practices coupled with DevOps, which is a practice that shortens development time by having software developers work more closely with system administrators and others in the IT operations team using quick iterations based on customer feedback.
IBM BlueMix is an open cloud platform based on open standards that include Cloud Foundry. It’s available as a PaaS offering with the promise of enabling developers to build projects in the cloud quickly and easily.
New DevOps tools for cloud and mobile
BlueMix’s new DevOps tools include services for continuous testing, production and deployment that apply advanced analytics to collect user feedback about the application and to measure quality. They also enable developers to deploy and manage mobile application simultaneously on multiple platforms.
The services also cover business continuity planning and joint development. Examples include Rational System Architect for open communication between workers and analyst teams, Collaborative Lifecycle Management for accounting and Rational DOORS to enhance transparency and tracking.
There are also built-in reporting services that, for example, manage large arrays of data in the active feedback tool; services workflow to orchestrate cloud services workflows based on their behavior; and pipeline services that ensure a continuous supply of software for release management.
BlueMix DevOps tools also cover mobile device management, integration, access to transactions, security technologies and services for the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, analytics and other developer tools.
Since its announcement in February BlueMix has made significant strides in creating an integrated development environment in the cloud that can enable a secure connection between public and private data applications, with features of data and analytics-as-a-service for information.
