Oculus first developer conference focuses on best virtual reality experiences

oculus-rift-developersThe year 2014 is a pivotal year for Oculus VR. After its acquisition by Facebook and the release of Oculus Rift “Development Kit 2” version, the company now announced Oculus Connect, an event about virtual reality to be held on the 19th and 20th of September in Los Angeles.

The event will be dedicated primarily to developers who will be able to discover all the latest news, plans for the future and talk directly with Oculus engineers on how to make the most of the device. Oculus VR says that the event will bring together engineers, designers, and creatives from around the world to share and collaborate in the interest of creating the best virtual reality experiences possible.

“In the last two years, we’ve seen more virtual reality content built than in the last two decades, and that’s a direct result of incredible work by the community. With virtual reality’s momentum at an all-time high, this is a unique moment for the developer community to come together to take the virtual reality to the next level,” Oculus elaborated on the conference’s goals in the blog post.

Among the speakers at the event will be Brendan Iribe (CEO), Palmer Luckey (Founder), John Carmack (CTO) and Michael Abrash (Chief Scientist) of Oculus. Participants can also directly interact with the Oculus VR staff to get advice on porting their applications to the Rift. Ample space will obviously be dedicated to illustrate the features and innovations of Oculus Rift. In addition, developers at the event will also have opportunities to receive design and engineering feedback directly from the Oculus team in hands-on labs.

Registration for the event starts on July 10. Oculus VR is still a small company compared to others who hold developer conferences, but the amount of excitement surrounding Oculus really makes it an interesting proposition. Developers can make demos of their creations in a designated location.

With the developer event, Oculus hopes to attract business and create a emulation around virtual reality. Just what the company plans to do with the technology is unknown, but the Oculus VR headset is not just about games or services. The services offer essentials for multiplayer features like voice chat and object replication. Oculus has made it open source on GitHub, something that was not previously available.
