Watch LIVE! from OpenStack Silicon Valley 2014
The stage is set at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA for the OpenStack Silicon Valley 2014 conference today, September 16. SiliconANGLE’s roving news desk theCUBE will be broadcasting live from the event, hosting exclusive interviews with top executives and thought leaders in the open source computing space.
Here’s your quick guide to the OpenStack SV event:
For attendees
Keynote speakers include Hewlett-Packard Co. EVP and CTO Martin Fink, OpenStack Foundation Executive Director Jonathan Bryce, VMware Inc. CTO of Networking Martin Casado, Cloudscaling Group Inc.’s CEO and Founder Randy Bias, and Eucalyptus Systems Inc. CEO Marten Mickos.
The topics of discussion for these keynotes will include OpenStack’s market position within the enterprise, as well as its governance methods.
Today’s one-day event will also include track sessions to discuss networking, agile deployment, emerging trends, and training boot camps.
OpenStack SV primer
Ahead of today’s event, SiliconANGLE hosted a CrowdChat to discuss analyst and industry expectations for OpenStack. The open source platform provider joined in, asking the question “What’s the biggest barrier for the enterprise in adopting an OpenStack cloud and what are some lessons learned from successful enterprise implementations?” Many participated in this particular thread, but it seemed Blue Box Group founder and CTO Jesse Proudman had one of the more notable responses.
Proudman stated that “recognizing cloud means more than advanced virtualization,” and is a prerequisite for the necessary mind shift around open source in the enterprise. Once that happens, “the barriers quickly dissolve,” he said.
Even as OpenStack seeks its path to the enterprise, the ecosystem developing around this open source platform continues to promote growth and adoption. theCUBE will further explore OpenStack’s ecosystem by determining the impact of Hewlett-Packard, Co.’s recent acquisition of Eucalyptus, the open-source hybrid cloud software maker that’s been such a hit with customers of Amazon Web Services. Are technology’s stalwarts like HP looking to build their own in-house solutions for scalable architecture, or will OpenStack distros pave new inroads to the broader enterprise market?
