CBT Nuggets cooks up Chef training videos to serve DevOps to IT pros
Smart DevOps News With SiliconANGLE
The world of DevOps is slowly filling to the brim with tools, each of which takes on a particular vertical of the whole DevOps experience—but as has been reported before, DevOps is a culture more than it is a single technology. As a result, to have a working DevOps team—much like any other team—the members need to be trained to embrace that culture and understand the tools that make it work. Taking up this mantle, CBT Nuggets makes training videos and recently announced the release of a Chef training video.
CBT Nuggets is an Oregon-based company that makes IT training videos called “nuggets” cast over multiple-hour courses of video to teach IT professionals about the tools and methods. The addition of Chef to CBT Nuggets’s lineup paves the company an excellent inroad into the DevOps paradigm because Chef is a popular and powerful tool that enables DevOps.
Chef is a configuration automation tool–which competes with such tools as Puppet, Ansible, and SaltStack—and is one of the most popular in the DevOps toolset. Chef, the parent company that makes the software, recently released Chef 12, which included a freemium business model for its software opening up to a much wider audience.
“Chef allows a small team to accomplish an enormous amount of infrastructure management with minimal effort,” CBT Nuggets trainer Shawn Powers explains. “I can simplify the way you perform infrastructure automation and configuration management tasks.”
Companies interested in gearing up for DevOps have access to numerous open source tools, including Chef, and professionals will need training.
To fill this need, CBT Nuggets has announced an intermediate-level course for Chef users that contains five hours of instruction. The training is aimed at IT pros, from system administrators to developers, who are looking for ways to streamline server configuration and management.
As Chef comes from a set of tools core to the practice of DevOps learning to use Chef in of itself can give IT professionals a grounding in what DevOps is, what it entails, and how to best leverage it in any given development, operations, or management situation.
The training course, “Chef Fundamentals”, is available as part of a CBT Nuggets subscription. Subscriptions are available for individuals or teams, and can be paid monthly, semi-annually, or yearly. A 7-day free trial is available for people who want to try before they buy.
Subscriptions run from $99/mo. paid monthly for Basic and $83/mo. (when paid annually) for Premium, prices are per learner. CBT Nuggets also offers enterprise grade options for large-scale organizations who would like to teach much bigger groups of people.
