How to kill YouTube ads
YouTube Head Honcho Susan Wojcicki
Supposedly out to eliminate annoying ads on YouTube videos, Google’s video-sharing service is said to be working on a paid-subscription model.
The effort is reportedly led by Google veteran executive Susan Wojcicki, who took over YouTube earlier this year. Since Google acquired YouTube in 2006, the search giant has been looking for ways to increase its revenue and profit from the service. At the moment, Google makes money off of YouTube thru ads, which can be quite distracting to viewers.
In a press conference for Code Mobile, Wojcicki confirmed that the plan is in the works and it is in “near term.” She cited how there are now mobile apps which gives users a choice to a free, ad-laced version or subscribe to an ad-free version.
“That’s actually a pretty interesting model because it’s giving users choice,” she said. “We’re thinking about how to give users options.”
But is a paid, subscription-based model the only way to get rid of those annoying YouTube ads?
