ShotTracker for b-ball
Basketball players can choose from a variety of connected fitness bands to give them a better view of how their bodies function during workout, practice and even during a game. But a new wearable device can also track their shooting skills?
ShotTracker is a wearable band specific for basketball players that automatically tracks attempts, makes and misses. For $149.99 you get a sensor for the net, a wrist sensor, a wristband, a shooting sleeve and the charging unit. When you want to start tracking your shooting skills, just clip the sensor on the net, wear the wrist sensor, open the ShotTracker app on your smartphone and start shooting.
FATE – FAll DeTector for the Elderly
According to the World Health Organization, 30 percent of adults over the age of 65 suffer a fall at some point. Falling for the elderly is no laughing matter, so the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Spain designed the FATE – FAll DeTector for the Elderly.
FATE is a harness that uses the same kind of technology as an airbag that gauges when an elderly has fallen. The complete system includes sensors for the user’s bed and an intelligent walker to monitor and help prevent falls. The main principle used in this technology is accelerometry, and what makes it different from other fall detectors is that it sends alerts automatically.
FATE is still in its early stages and there have been reports where movements were detected as falls resulting in false alarms. Though FATE is too sensitive at the moment, some users reported that while they have fallen but not badly injured, they still require assistance in getting up, so the device’s sensitivity has its merits.
MocaHeart provides actionable recommendations
MocaCare has launched a project on Kickstarter Inc. to raise funds for MocaHeart, a portable health tracker that measures your blood pressure, blood oxygen and related vital signs. The device quickly measures Moca Index, the company’s revolutionary index that is related to blood pressure with actionable recommendations when readings are out of the normal range.
The device is targeted for people who need to monitor their vital signs on a daily basis, or frequently throughout the day. It fits seamlessly in their everyday activities, as a user simply places two fingers, one from the left hand and one from the right, over the respective sensors. One finger covers the light sensor and the other finger needs to be touching anywhere on top of the device. The results appears in seconds on the user’s smartphone. Results can easily be shared to family members or primary health care provider, and seamlessly integrates with Apple Inc.’s HealthKit.
