Wearable tech to triple by 2018

According to a new report from Juniper Research Ltd., the wearable tech market is expected to triple by 2018. The report also outlined three forecast scenarios regarding the future of wearable tech.

The first scenario, Incremental Innovation, describes how the smart fitness market continues to grow at a fast rate, resulting in a slow adoption by consumers. The second scenario, Early Exposure, tackles releases across 2014-2016, as well as the entry of new players into the market, generating the buzz to temporarily accelerate growth rates. And the third scenario, Key Case, envisions the upcoming releases driving fitness tracking into the general consumer consciousness for sustained high levels of growth.

Tailio

Most pet health trackers require that you attach the tracker to your pet, but if your furry friend isn’t accustomed to wearing a collar, this can be a problem. Pet Wireless aims to solve this with Tailio, a cat health tracker that isn’t worn, but is instead placed under the cat’s litter box.

Tailio monitors your cat’s weight, waste, and litter box trends to capture a high level snapshot of the feline’s health, as well as remind you when the litter box needs cleaning. Tailio can be used even if you have multiple cats, differentiating each pet based on weight and behavior. Data collected by Tailio is accessible via its mobile app, and data can be shared with friends, family and vets.

Tailio is currently on Kickstarter Inc. and has managed to raise more than $70,000, double its original funding goal, with still 15 days to go.

Arki

There are many fitness and health trackers worn on the wrist, but how many track your posture? If you can’t name any, here’s one. Arki is a wearable band that tracks walking posture, providing body balance analysis. It can also be used as an activity and fitness tracker.

While living an active lifestyle is a step in the right direction, we could be doing our bodies more harm than good if those activities are performed with poor posture. We can do damage to our spines when even walking with incorrect posture, so Arki keeps you on the proper path with real-time feedback.

Another interesting feature of Arki is that you can use your posture or walking method as a secure way of unlocking your computer or smartphone.

The project is now live on Kickstarter and has managed to raise over $100,00 with still 25 days to go.
