BitTorrent to launch original series Fall 2015

children of the machine posterBitTorrent Inc. has jumped on the bandwagon currently occupied by Netflix Inc. and by announcing a release date for its first original series.

The series titled Children of the Machine, is directed by German producer Marco Weber (Brooklyn’s Finest, Unthinkable) and created by Rapid Eye Studios.

The series is set in the year 2031, and chronicles a society where humans must work together to survive after androids start dominating them.

There is scant detail on who is appearing in the series, with actress Kate Butler (Bridge to Terrabithia) being the only person currently credited to the show on IMDB.

“This is a science fiction show catered to the typical tech-savvy, male-dominated audience,” Weber told AdWeek. “We’re not trying to launch a romantic comedy, so the concept of this show moved us toward BitTorrent.”

The move follows BitTorrent’s ongoing struggle to legitimise itself as a company, particularly given its name is also the same as the not always used for legitimate downloads peer-to-peer file sharing protocol.

BitTorrent has previously worked with musicians, including Azealia Banks, Public Enemy, Alice in Chains, Diplo, Thom Yorke, and Atari Teenage Riot in releasing music on the service, utilising the companies paygate system.

The company claims to have 170 million users with 40 million downloading daily.

The series will be released in Fall 2015 with various options: a free download with ads, or alternatively an ad free version for $4.95 (all 8 episodes) or $9.95 with bonus content.
