Latest Samsung Galaxy S6 rumors: Thin design, 64-bit octa-core CPU
With a new year and a new model of Samsung Co. Ltd’s flagship phone, the Galaxy S6, due for release, there’s a range of interesting rumors floating around online. Here’s a few of the latest ones.
Design
A photo of an alleged prototype of the Galaxy S6 hit the web on Dutch site Toptienmobiel Friday (see picture top right). The image shows a white smartphone marked with the Samsung logo, with a large screen with a thin bezel. Although the picture doesn’t show the phone side, the design would suggest it’s thin.
The Galaxy S5 had a depth of 8.1 mm (0.31 inches) compared to Apple Inc.’s iPhone 6’s at 6.9 mm (0.27 inches,) so it’s likely Samsung will want to deliver a phone that either rivals or beats Apple on specs.
Specs
There are some conflicting reports on the specs for the Galaxy S6, with the company possibly testing two versions of the phone.
ShinyShiny claims that S6 benchmarking appeared on phone monitoring site AntTuTu, and shows the new device has a 5.5-inch screen running at 2560×1440 pixels, Samsung’s Exynos 7420 64-bit Octa-Core CPU, 3 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of storage. Cameras came in at 2o megapixels and 5 megapixels, rear and front respectively.
Another report from BGR listed a slightly different version on the phone supporting a Quad HD at 2560 x 1440 resolution, octa-core processor, Mali-T768 graphics processing unit, and a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera.
Release Date
Nothing solid here yet, but the good money is on a March or April 2015 release date.
Techradar makes an informed guess in suggesting that with Mobile World Congress (MWC) scheduled for March 2nd through March 5th, the launch will probably take place “around then.” This date makes the most sense as the flagship phone line has been either reserved for unveiling during – or within weeks of MWC previously.
Whatever Samsung comes out with, it will need to do something new. The Galaxy S line is still the one of the world’s most popular phones, but the S5 famously did not meet sales expectations. The company also faces renewed product pushes from the likes of Apple Inc., Sony Corp,, and even Chinese upstarts including Lenovo Group Ltd., and Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.
