Who is Happy is a geo-location check-in service for stoners
New app “Who is Happy” wants to be the go-to geo-location check-in and connection service for stoners, or dare we say “getting stoned 2.0.”
While the concept is amusing at the outset, so would the idea of legalized recreational marijuana use 10 years ago; at the current count there are four states where it’s legal, with another 23 offering weed for medical treatment. There’s even a burgeoning market in pot related investments, including venture capital.
This is where Who is Happy comes in. The “Brazilian startup based in London” offers a service similar to Swarm (Foursquare previously) where users check in when they are happy (ie stoned.)
Undoubtedly after a few cones, they manage to describe the app far more floridly than your humble SiliconANGLE correspondent can.
“With Who is Happy you are going to be able to discover happiness in the world in a different way, visualizing on the map if there is anyone happy around you or in any place in the world…” the description reads.
To use, the “happy user” simply presses a button, displaying a green radius of 1 kilometer (0.62 miles) on the map that visually indicates that the user is happy, and to see if their friends or others are in the vicinity embracing happiness as well. Additional features include individual country happy data, as well as the ability for the user to receive information about their own happiness….in case they accidentally forget about it the next day.
There’s no doubt that the developers are at least having a bit of fun, stating in their press release that “the application is currently under some criticism for possibly condoning illegal drugs, specifically marijuana,” then following with co-founder Paulo Costa stating that “the application is for people who are happy in the world, if our users establish a direct connection between cannabis and ‘Who is Happy?’, this leaves us flattered =).”
It’s not going to break records overnight, and it’s ability to find worldwide market is limited due to drug laws (who is going to check in as stoned where drug use is prohibited?), but within the growing United States legal marijuana scene it may find an audience.
Who is Happy is available for free on both Android and iOS.
