Twitter issues block access to some, breaks date display for others

twitterbirddeadWidespread issues on Twitter Inc. services Sunday prevented some users from logging in, and showed incorrect dates to users of TweetDeck.

Reports indicate that users of Twitter for Android and third party app Echfon, by naan studio, Inc., have been locked out of their accounts. Other users are reporting that they can log in, then are subsequently kicked off in short shrift.

There are also some reports that users connecting to Twitter via the standard web interface are having problems.

Tweets showing serious issues

SiliconANGLE can confirm that the Twitter-owned TweetDeck has a serious issue with displaying the time of tweets.

twitterborked2At the time of writing, dates on all tweets in TweetDeck are showing as being 365 days old or longer; new tweets are showing as 365 days and old tweets minus 1 year and x number of days.

Twitter’s only response so far has been to confirm that “Some users are currently having trouble signing in to twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve this.”

We’ll update this post if and when we know more.

UPDATE 11:10pm EST: the date issue appears to be fixed in TweetDeck. There are still reports of sign in problems with Twitter for Android.

UPDATE 12:35am EST: Twitter writes the login issue “was due to a bug in our front end code, which has been patched.”
