Lenovo’s VIBE Band VB10: Fitness tracker and smartwatch combo priced right

Lenovo's VIBE Band VB10 Heading To Market

With the wearable computing market set to grow at a compound annual rate of 35 percent over the next five years, Lenovo Group Ltd. has announced its second foray into to market in the form of the VIBE Band VB10, a combination fitness tracker and smartwatch.

The wearable has a trim rectangular E Ink screen, tracks your activity, and alerts you for phone notifications.

The E Ink display measures 1.43-inches, allowing it to display messages up to 150 characters long. The low energy consumption of an E Ink display contributes to an advertised seven days’ battery life. The E Ink display also means no glare and a readable display –even in direct sunlight.

The VIBE Band is compatible with Android smartphones running Android 4.4 KitKat and above as well as iOS devices.  It will alert the wearer of phone calls, SMSes and social notifications.

A “proximity reminder” will alert the forgetful among us if they go too far away from their phone and, should you forget where you left your phone, the “phone finder” will make your phone ring at the push of a button.

The VIBE Band is also a fitness tracker and will measure steps, calories burnt, distance and sleep time via onboard accelerometers. It boasts an IPX7 waterproof rating, which means it can withstand immersion for 30 minutes at a depth of one meter.

The VIBE Band VB10 goes on sale in the U.S. in April 2015. With a retail price of just $89, it is one of the more affordable devices in the category.
