‘Warhammer: The End Times – Vermintide’ announced with 4-player co-op

'Warhammer: The End Times - Verminitude' announced with 4-player co-opWar of the Roses developer Fatshark Games is working on a new Warhammer title. Warhammer: The End Times – Vermintide will be a first-person, 4-player co-op game available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Rumors about the game surfaced yesterday after a Neogaf user reported that descriptions of the game appeared in a Finnish game magazine. According to user dan2026, the game would feature a Left 4 Dead-style co-op experience focusing on the rat-like Warhammer race, the Skaven.

Today, Swedish game maker Fatshark Games released an official teaser trailer of the new Warhammer title, confirming the rumors. The game will be set in the city of Ubersreik, which the developers describe as “a charnel-town, drowning beneath the malevolent shadow of the Horned Rat.”

“A game about surviving to the end”

Players can choose to play as one of five heroes, each with their own unique play styles, equipment, abilities and personalities. The heroes must work together to survive ” an apocalyptic invasion from hordes of relentless, power hungry Skaven.” The combat will combine elements of first-person shooters with up close melee action, and the game’s enemies designed to overwhelm the players with relentless numbers.

“Having built titles like War of the Roses in the past has taught us a great deal about working with melee combat, and we are building Vermintide to be a first-person game that handles both ranged and melee combat in a viscerally impressive manner,” Executive Producer Martin Wahlund wrote on the official PlayStation blog.

“We always knew we wanted Vermintide to be a cooperative experience and have designed every aspect of the game to coincide with this vision. Everything from the loot system to the narrative is built to enhance the co-op. It’s a game about surviving to the end with your friends.”

The Warhammer franchise began as a strategy-based tabletop game, but it has spun out into dozens of books, comics, board games, films and videogames. Fatshark’s new game will be set in the original Warhammer fantasy universe rather than the arguably more popular Warhammer 40,000 science fiction universe.

Warhammer: The End Times – Vermintide is slated to come out in the second half of 2015.
