Must love pot: High There! is a dating app for potheadsPrompted by Tinder’s success, online dating has progressively gone mobile and today a variety of dating apps exist for a range of interests. Now there is an online dating app aimed at another group looking for love: Potheads. Denver-based High There! wants to be the Tinder for potheads, by potheads.

Similar to Tinder and other dating apps, users create a personal profile and have access to a host of potential matches in their area. The most important criteria for a perfect match being a user’s proclivity for consuming marijuana in one way or another.

High There app screen1Users are matched based on how they prefer to consume their pot, for example smoking it or using a vaporizer, what activities they are interested in, for example staying in, simply chatting or going out for a snack or meal and also based on their energy levels when high, ensuring that a couch potato is not matched with a user bouncing off the walls.

High There! CEO Todd Mitchem saw the potential and need for the app after a date he was on ended prematurely after he shared that he smokes pot.

“We wanted to build a cool piece of technology that solved the problem of where do millions and millions of cannabis consumers go to meet people, connect with people and build relationships,” Mitchem told Mashable. ”

Mitchem also notes that although intended as a dating app, there are more socially impactful ways High There! can be used.

“That cancer patient who needs friends and support, the guy who lands in Denver and does not know where people go to buy great products legally, they can also connect. Just the other day I connected with a dude and talked back and forth for a while about life, weed, and built a friendship,” Mitchem wrote in an email to Co.EXIST.

Using geofencing, the app’s availability is restricted to only the 23 states where the medical use of marijuana is legal. Mitchem said this is out of respect for the law and as more states legalize medicinal marijuana use they too will be added. The company also has its sights set on Canada and other countries as they change their laws.

The app is available on Android now and will roll out to iOS soon.
