Conductor CEO and Founder Seth Besmertnik NEWS

Web presence management company Conductor raises $27 million Series D

Conductor CEO and Founder Seth BesmertnikConductor Inc. has raised $27 Million Series D in a round led by Catalyst Investors that included previous investors FirstMark Capital, Matrix Partners, Investor Growth Capital and new investor Blue Cloud Ventures.

Founded in 2010 Conductor bills itself as a “web presence management” company, a sort of hybrid SEO come content management firm that offers clients the ability to have their sites and content seen without the use of paid advertising.

The Conductor Searchlight platform is claimed to transform a brand’s web presence in unpaid channels including organic search, content and social, “into a powerful acquisition method resulting in meaningful traffic & revenue increases.”

The too long, didn’t read version: they game Google in a somewhat legitimate way by creating content of value for clients that can be found by those interested organically through Google’s search results.

CEO and Founder Seth Besmertnik said in a statement that “consumers are speaking louder than ever before; they don’t want to engage with banner ads and are getting overloaded with e-mails.”

“Modern day consumers are actively seeking out their interests and the new marketing is about getting found in those moments. This is what we do. We are aggressively using this capital to pursue our product vision and make Conductor a global company.”

Conductor has some impressive statistics, claiming that customers using their services see an average of a 97 percent gain in organic traffic, up to a 224 percent increase in revenue from organic channels, a 412 percent increase in sales, and “an impressive reduction in paid media spend.”

It’s a large investment into a company that on the surface is nothing more that a glorified SEO firm, which ironically is what Conductor’s primary focus was when it first launched.

In the post-Google Panda update world though, old school SEO tricks don’t work like they use to and this is where Conductor steps in, offering more ethical, Google-compliant services to companies looking at having their content seen organically through Google’s search results.

Including this round Conductor has raised $60.6 million to date.
