The Open Compute disruption: Exclusive interviews from #OCPSummit2015

Screen shot 2015-03-12 at 10.09.30 AMAs the world generates more data, there is a need to make data center products better able to openly share data management methods and data center designs, a need which led to the creation of the Open Compute Project (OCP) initiative by Facebook, Inc.

On Tuesday, The OCP U.S. Summit 2015 kicked off and run through until today at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, CA.

Attendees of the two-day event gain insight on Open Compute motherboards, storage, data center design, networking, hardware management, Open Rack as well as heard from speakers such as Facebook VP of Network Engineering Najam Ahmad, HP Vice President and General Manager HP Servers and Hyperscale Computing Alain Andreoli, Brian Armstrong of CapitalOne and Facebook Manager for Infrastructure Software Engineering Omar Baldanado, to name a few.

TheCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s premier video production, covered the event live, interviewing top industry executives including Facebook’s Director of Hardware Engineering Matt Corddry and OCP Chairman Frank Frankovsky. You can watch the interviews here or if you’re on mobile, you can watch the interviews on the go using the iOS and Android apps.

For theCUBE’s final wrap segment, SiliconANGLE CEO John Furrier stated how OCP is disrupting the industry. He mentioned that before OCP, you would have needed $40 million in venture capital to be able to compete on a global scale in networking or cloud computing, but all that changed.

“Now with Open Compute, with the ecosystem they have here, as an entrepreneur, you can come in immediately, stand in the shoulders of giants in front of you with open source and get reference implementation and architecture out of the box, in the open, and build a viable technology straight away that has large scale global impact. To me, that is so freaking disruptive and exciting. It’s going to be fun to watch,” Furrier noted.
