Apple Pay set to launch October 18th, says a leaked memo from Walgreens NEWS

Apple Pay decals aimed at reminding ‘forgetful’ iPhone users about Apple Pay

Apple Pay iPhoneApple Inc. is offering retail partners free Apple Pay acceptance decals via a newly updated section of the company’s website. All a retailer has to do is select the number of Apple Pay glass and register decal kits required, enter a company name, name, email address and shipping details, and Apple will deliver the kits at no cost.

Businesses can order up to five kits via the website, while orders over five require a phone call to Apple.

The Apple Pay decal kit contains glass and register decals in two sizes, as well as an application tool.

An accompanying Payment Mark Guidelines document shows retailers how and where to display the decals to best advertise that they accept Apple Pay, and it also includes guidance on digital design principles for retailers wishing to include Apple Pay branding on point-of-sale terminal screens, online advertising campaigns and store websites.

Last week a poll conducted by InfoScout and PYMNTS.com found that only six percent of iPhone 6 owners had used Apple Pay, while 85 percent said they had never even tried the service. Nine percent of those polled said that, although they had tried Apple Pay, they usually forgot that it was an option or didn’t know if the store accepted it.

“Apple Pay is not yet salient. When it comes up, it has not registered with the [consumer] that they should use Apple Pay,” InfoScout Co-Founder and CEO Jared Schrieber explained. “There’s something lacking there in the habit-forming action at checkout.”

These Apple Pay decal kits may help increase consumer awareness of Apple’s mobile payments service in-store.

Apple Pay has seen significant adoption from retailers, and last week Apple updated its website with 14 of the latest retailers to sign up for the service, including Walt Disney World Resort, JetBlue Airways Corp., Jamba Juice Co., Marriott International, Inc., GameStop, Inc., Regal Cinemas, Coca-Cola Vending, and more.

The Coca-Cola Vending machine partnership, announced by Apple CEO Tim Cook at the company’s March 9 “Spring Forward” event, will see Apple Pay roll out to more than 40,000 Coca-Cola vending machines across the U.S. At the same event, Cook announced that Apple Pay is now accepted at over 700,000 locations.

In other efforts to spread adoption, Apple has launched an Apple Pay FAQ page and dedicated Apple Pay support to answer questions from independent merchants and to walk them through the onboarding process.
