3 must-have Apple Watch apps for travelers

travelTraveling is exciting, but there is so much information to keep track of before and during a trip. From flight arrangements to hotel bookings and car rental, the list of things to remember and organize can seem endless. And if you’re in a strange city, how do you find the best coffee or an off-the-beaten-track bookshop to lose yourself in for an hour or two?

Modern technology has made it simpler for us to organize information and discover new things. Today, many online tools and smartphone apps exist to help you travel easier, and three of our favorites are now available on Apple Watch:

Yelp

Yelp Apple WatchWith more than 70 million reviews on businesses from around the world, Yelp lets you search for nearby restaurants, bars, coffee shops and more, and it shows you handy information like its star rating, review count, business category, price range, distance from your exact position and business hours.

Yelp is now available for Apple Watch and using Handoff, you can switch to your iPhone to add your own review, make a call, snap a photo or video, or check in at your destination.

Booking Now

booking-now-aw-screen3Booking Now for Apple Watch, from web-based accommodation booking site Booking.com, lets you book a stay at any of the site’s 625,000-plus properties directly from your wrist. The app boasts that booking a stay takes only “one simple gesture” thanks to Apple’s Force Touch technology.

The app has a few handy features on offer once you’ve made your booking, including the ability to manage your booking, saving the location, turn-by-turn navigation to your accommodation and it saves your room number so you won’t forget it.

TripIt

TripIt Apple Watch screenTripIt helps you organize your travel itinerary in one place. You simply email your travel plans, such as hotel, airline, and car rental or restaurant reservations to TripIt via email, and it uploads and organizes it in the app. Now that TripIt features support for Apple Watch, you can see your entire itinerary at a glance without having to dig your phone out of your pocket or bag – even when you’re offline.

Some features, like real-time flight alerts, are only available in the Pro version, but the convenience of being notified of a flight delay via a tap on the wrist from your Apple Watch may justify the cost.
