Apple Watch may go on sale in more countries by June, says Tim Cook

The growth in revenue was largely due to increased demand for Apple’s iPhone. iPhone saw revenue growth of 55 percent year on year, with particularly high growth in emerging markets, where units sales were up 63 percent year on year.

The company’s recently launched Apple Watch did not form part of the second quarter revenue and analysts and media taking part in the company’s earnings call were eager to find out how the new wearable is performing.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, however, divulged very little to shed light on any tangible sales numbers for Apple Watch. He merely stated that “The June quarter is off to an exciting start with great new products and services.”

One of those new products is, of course, the Apple Watch.

“It’s been really great to see the reaction of customers since their Watches began arriving on Friday morning. All around the world, we’ve seen the excitement on social networks as people start using their Apple Watch. The response has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Cook.

Demand for Apple Watch hard to gauge

Asked about the demand for the new wearable, Cook responded that it’s hard to gauge where the company is in terms of demand, since it doesn’t have any products in stores, but are rather filling orders entirely online.

“Right now, demand is greater than supply; so we’re working hard to remedy that,” said Cook. “We’ve made progress over the last week or so, and were able to deliver more customers an Apple Watch over the weekend than we had initially anticipated. We’re going to keep doing that, and so we’ve already sent some notes out today, with moving over customers, and versus what we had communicated to them previously.”

Apple Watch may go on sale in more countries as early as June

“It is a new product for us, and with any kind of new product, you wind up taking some time to fully ramp,” said Cook. “I think we’re in a good position, and by sometime in late June, we currently anticipate being in a position that we could begin to sell the Apple Watch in additional countries.”
