Boss Fight Entertainment nabs former Amazon Game Studios director

Dallas-based mobile game developer Boss Fight Entertainment has announced that former Amazon Game Studios director Dave Luehmann will be joining the company as VP of Production.

Based out of a 105-year-old cotton mill in McKinney, Texas, Boss Fight is a descendent of sorts of Ensemble Studios, the now-defunct developer behind the Age of Empires series. Boss Fight rose from the ashes of Zynga Dallas, formerly Bonfire Studios, which itself had been founded by former Ensemble employees.

“Dave is an expert in leading and scaling development studios and has delivered some of the industry’s most enduring franchises,” David Rippy, CEO of Boss Fight, said in a statement. “His background in AAA gaming, paired with his knowledge of the free-to-play market, makes him the perfect choice to help drive Boss Fight’s next phase of growth and innovation.”

Luehmann most recently headed Amazon Game Studios, but he had previously served for over 12 years as General Manager for Microsoft Game Studios, which published Ensemble’s games.

“Having known many of the developers at Boss Fight for over a decade, I watched with deep admiration and respect as their studio has grown,” Luehmann said. “I look forward to working with the exceptional talent they have and bringing their creative visions to the massive free-to-play market.”

Boss Fight is currently working on its first game, an online dungeon-crawler called Dungeon Boss, which will be a free-to-play RPG for mobile devices. Dungeon Boss is set to release later this year on iOS and Android.
