Samsung ‘leaked’ specs for upcoming Galaxy S6 Active
Following the leak of rendered press images and alleged photos of the rumored Samsung Galaxy S6 Active within days of each other in May, Samsung accidently confirmed the device’s existence itself via a user manual published on the Samsung U.S. website earlier this week.
The existence of the Galaxy S6 Active is not a total surprise though, as Samsung usually releases a rugged version of its flagship smartphone, as it did with the Galaxy S5 Active pictured above.
The user manual, discovered by 9to5Google, has since been removed from the site – but not before 9to5Google dissected it to pull out all the juicy details on Samsung’s rugged version of its flagship Galaxy S6 smartphone.
The manual included details on Samsung’s custom user interface overlayed on top of Android Lollipop, SIM card installation instructions, and a “how-to” guide on customizing the “Active” key located on the side of the handset.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Active features
According to the details gleaned from the manual by 9to5Google, the Galaxy S6 Active will feature a 5.1 inch 2560 x 1440 Quad HD Super AMOLED display, an Exynos 7420 octa-core processor, 32GB of non-upgradable internal storage, 16MP rear and 5MP front-facing cameras, and a 2,550mAh battery.
Internally then, the Galaxy S6 Active will feature more or less the same specs as the standard Galaxy S6.
Externally the Galaxy S6 differs from the standard S6 in that it does not have a fingerprint sensor – a downside for users of mobile payments apps from either Samsung or Google – or touch-sensitive buttons. Instead, the Galaxy S6 Active has rugged hardware keys – which makes sense as it is intended for more ‘rugged’ use. The heart rate sensor remains – it’s likely to be useful to more ‘active’ users.
Despite its rugged exterior, the Galaxy S6 Active also measures and weighs the same as the standard Galaxy S6: 143.5 x 70.6 x 6.85 millimeters and 138 grams.
In the manual, the Galaxy S6 Active is shown in two color variants: Camo White and Titanium Black.
There is no indication of pricing and availability as yet, but 9to5Google noted that with the device already submitted for FCC approval the launch should be imminent.
