HP loses another top exec as it prepares to detail breakup plans

A little over a year ago, Hewlett-Packard Co. Enterprise Group EVP Bill Veghte kicked off the company’s Discover conference by proclaiming “HP is back.” However, he won’t be around to enjoy a victory lap.

HP announced this morning that Veghte is leaving the company for an unspecified “new opportunity.” His departure comes at a somewhat awkward time for the company, which is in the final stages of a massive separation into two roughly equally sized giants. Veghte has reportedly played a critical role in the separation, which is due to happen in early November. HP is expected to detail the financial outlines of the separation later this week.

Veghte is the second high-profile HP executive to jump ship since the company’s split was announced last October. Dave Donatelli, former executive vice president of HP’s Enterprise Systems division, jumped ship to Oracle in April, joining Mark Hurd, another HP alum.

Veghte appeared on theCUBE at Discover 2014 where he told host David Vellante, “I hope when we look back a couple of years from now people say ‘Wow, what they were able to do was not only create a great set of innovations …but an operating model and a group of people to sustain it.'”
