Leaked images show iPhone 6s body, no design changes from iPhone 6
As rumor has it, Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will retain the same exterior design as its predecessors, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Now a set of leaked images of what is supposedly the iPhone 6s’s metal rear casing appears to confirm that there will be no visible difference between the two generations of iPhones.
Veteran Apple reporter Mark Gurman from 9to5Mac obtained the images from a trusted source within Apple’s supply chain.
Assuming the images are genuine – and given Gurman’s reputation for accuracy they likely are – the iPhone 6s will be identical to the iPhone 6, including the Lightning connector, speaker and microphone positioning, headphone jack, volume rocker, mute button, sleep/wake button, SIM card slot, antenna lines and the cutouts for the rear camera and LED flash.

According to Gurman’s sources, the iPhone 6s will also be the same thickness and width as the current iPhone, which is in line with reports that Apple is sticking to 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhones for now.
The unchanged cutouts for the camera and LED flash seem to support rumors that Apple will not include a dual-lens camera in the iPhone until at least 2016. Apple has reportedly been working on bringing duel-lens camera technology to iPhone for the last three years.
It is not apparent from the images whether or not the iPhone 6s will retain the protruding rear camera, although we may see this disappear thanks to technology Apple acquired when it bought LinX Computational Imaging, Ltd. earlier this year. LinX manufactures camera units half the height of a standard mobile camera module.
A recent patent application by Apple suggests that the company wants to hide the antenna lines on the rear casing using a material with an “anodized metal appearance.” The leaked images show identical antenna lines to those on the iPhone 6, so that is likely another change we won’t see until next year. However, Gurman hints at improved NFC antenna performance for the iPhone 6s.
The report also hints at different internal mounting points, particularly to accommodate a new logic board.
Other rumored features and component upgrades coming to the iPhone 6s include a more powerful A9 processor with 2GB of RAM, Force Touch, 7000 Series aluminum, a 12 megapixel rear camera, and an upgraded FaceTime camera.
