Samsung Unpacked August 13, expected to reveal Galaxy Note 5, S6 Plus, S6 Edge Plus

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.’s latest range of smartphones and phablets now has an official launch date, with the company announcing an “Unpacked” event for Thursday, August 13th.

Samsung Unpacked events have traditionally been events held by the company to unveil new products, and a teaser shown with the invite would indicate edges, suggesting that among the products to be unveiled will, obviously, come with edges.

The event, which is reported to be being held at 11am that day in New York City, will likely see the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy Note 5, along with enlarged versions of Samsung’s flagship phones: the Samsung Galaxy S6 Plus, and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.

As we’ve reported previously, the Galaxy S6 Plus and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus won’t be all that exciting as by all accounts they are identical in every way to their stock standard non-Plus versions except for being larger; the interesting part of the launch is exactly what the extremely popular Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will feature.

Previous speculation has included the Galaxy Note 5, primarily being an upgrade of the Galaxy Note 4, sporting upgraded everything, including the possibility that it may mimic the form factor of the Galaxy A8 complete with glass and metal design, thin bezel, and (sadly) the dropping of support for MicroSD cards.

The stylus for the Galaxy Note 5 is also rumored to be getting an upgrade, complete with the stylus now said to be feeling more like a normal pen, versus the more usual metal stick with rubber bit on the end most stylus’ are known for.

Other changes, again all rumors and alleged leaks at this stage, is that the Galaxy Note 5 is going to be offered in a variety of colors, with silver, gold, black and white options being available, and for memory the Galaxy Note 5 is said to be shipping with 4GB of RAM, the first Samsung device to do so.

The actual on-sale release date for all the three phones hasn’t been revealed yet, but previous reports that put the Unpacked event at August 12th (close enough, be it one day out) speculated that the phones would go on sale August 21, and that would seem to be a reasonable guess at this time.

If you’re keen on watching the Samsung Unpacked event live, Samsung is live streaming it on its YouTube channel on the day with coverage, naturally, starting from 11am.
