When Numerous meets IFTTT, you rule the world

Numerous Inc. founder Charlie Wood expects his personal data dashboard to be the most powerful integrator of IFTTT Inc. (If This Then That) channels after today. Evolving beyond just a dashboard for tracking MisFit data, Nest temperatures and days left to the SpaceX launch, Numerous is actionizing its numbers-happy dashboard to trigger a series of automated occurrences.

What’s interesting about Numerous’ integration with IFTTT is the way in which it’s utilizing user data as a two-way trigger, making it the “If” and the “That” of IFTTT’s programmable platform for connected devices and services. In doing so, Numerous is creating IFTTT inputs that never existed before, connecting apps like Google Sheets and HealthKit that were otherwise outside the realm of easy, consumer-grade automation.

“The model of one app for every service doesn’t scale,” Wood explained to SiliconANGLE in an interview. “Once I have 30 different smart things, I don’t want 30 different apps.”

Giving numbers new meaning

Numerous_IFTTTdiagramAnd so Wood’s vision of a dashboard to show the “headline numbers” in your life has blossomed into a hub for managing the meaning behind those numbers, activating new significance to each numerical representation.

In extending Numerous’ ability to take action around your tracked numbers, the app is adding a handful of new channels for business users, starting with Salesforce, Stripe, Facebook Pages, Coinbase, Google Sheets, Google Analytics and Google Calendar.

“Through our deep integration with IFTTT, we allow people to put their numbers to work for them,” said Numerous co-founder John Scalo in a statement sent to SiliconANGLE. “Whether it’s with a recipe that posts to Slack when your sales top $100,000, or one that sends you a text when your child’s blood glucose level drops too low, you can now check less because Numerous does the work for you.”

Enticing app makers

Numerous dashboardTo that end, Numerous’ update also includes a new developer platform enticing app makers to create their own channels for the broader Numerous community. The platform includes access to two REST APIs: the Metrics API for creating and updating numbers, and the Channels API for connecting Numerous to entirely new sources of data. Developers have also been given the ability to create private numbers for specified user access.

The goal is to enable new ways to interact and communicate with numbers, and Numerous’ app design is a big part of the plan. Today’s update features a fresh interface (as if the old one was so bad!), extremely user friendly and especially designed for iOS and Android devices. One highlight of Numerous’ design is the ability to select your number for the app badge, displaying the most important stat as the home screen icon. Numerous’ Apple Watch app is also very well done, taking full advantage of the wearable’s screen and haptic feed capabilities.

Founded in 2013, the Austin, TX-based Numerous takes on services like Geckoboard, Chart.io and Duckboard with today’s update.
