The new Galaxy S6 edge+ streams live to YouTube, includes mobile wallet | Samsung #unpacked
Continuing our coverage of the Samsung Unpacked streaming event, here’s what we know so far about the new Galaxy S6 edge+. It’s one of a handful of new devices unveiled today by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. hopes to regain lost market share in the smartphone sector.
Galaxy S6 edge+
The device will be available in a new color, Silver Titanium, along with existing colors Black Sapphire, White Pearl and Gold Platinum.
The Galaxy S6 edge+ is designed with a bigger screen, but the device itself is smaller and has been described as ‘deceptively compact.’
The device shares similar features with the Galaxy Note 5 such as a 5.7-inch QHD display Super AMOLED, 4GB RAM, 16MP rear camera 5MP front camera, double tapping the home button launches the camera, 4K shooting cameras, and built-in fast wireless charging that can go from empty to full in just 120 minutes, 30 percent faster than conventional charging.
Both devices will be available for pre-order in the U.S. starting today at 3PM (no time zone given) and will be available in retail stores starting August 21, in the U.S. and Canada.
Samsung also introduced two new features, the Live Broadcast which allows users to directly stream from your phone to YouTube, and Apps Edge, which allows users to access most used or favorite apps and contacts by swiping the edge of the device.
Samsung Pay
Both devices support the new Samsung Pay, which is compatible for use with NFC and MAGSTRIPE readers so it is virtually accepted everywhere a credit or debit card is accepted. It can store credit and debit card information and it is the first mobile payments solution to support store-branded credit cards. Samsung has partnered with Visa, MasterCard, Bank of America, Chase, American Express, Citi, US Bank, Blackhawk Network, First Data, Synchrony Financial, and supports Samsung Card, Shinhan Card, KB Kookmin Card, Hyundai Card, Lotte Card, NH Card, BCcard, KEB Hana Card, and Woori Card. It is protected by Samsung KNOX to ensure that all your card details are safe and secure.
Samsung Pay will go live in South Korea on August 20, and on September 28 in the U.S.. The service will become available in the near future in China, Spain and other countries.
