Cloud 2.0: The ‘Container Cloud’ | #OSSV15
Containers are the passion of Rancher Labs, Inc.’s CEO Sheng Liang, who visited theCUBE cohosts John Furrier and Jeff Frick during OpenStack Silicon Valley 2015. “I think container service is the next generation of an application development platform,” he said. “It’s going to be very popular.”
But Liang expressed his disappointment in the rate of cloud technology adoption. He sees the challenge not as how to install Clouds, but how to stimulate adoption.
“Containers are an application-packing program that developers are gravitating toward,” said Liang, but “people who use containers don’t use all the capabilities of the underlying infrastructure Cloud platform.”
He believes a solution to encourage Cloud adoption is to build cloud 2.0, a cloud that supports containers – the Container Cloud.
Rancher’s goal is to help developers not worry about infrastructure at all, and Liang envisions a future where developers rely on Docker as the standard packaging and distribution network.
