The season finale of USA Network’s Mr. Robot has been postponed following yesterday’s deadly shooting that claimed the lives of two journalists in Roanoke, Virginia. In a statement the network said, “The previously filmed season finale of Mr. Robot contains a graphic scene similar in nature to today’s tragic events in Virginia. Out of respect to the victims, their families and colleagues, and our viewers, we are postponing tonight’s episode. Our thoughts go out to all those affected during this difficult time.”

On Wednesday a reporter, Alison Parker, and a cameraman, Adam Ward, working for WDBJ news were shot and killed during an interview with a local business woman. The woman was also shot in the attack but is currently in a stable condition. The gunman, Vester Lee Flanagan II, had previously worked with WDBJ news as a reporter under the pseudonym Bryce Williams. Following a police chase Flanagan took his own life.

He had been fired by channel two years previously, only leaving when escorted from the building by police. A 23 page suicide note allegedly written by Flanagan was sent to ABC News stating that the shootings were revenge for the Charleston church shootings, as well as what was he considered racial discrimination at WDBJ. He also stated that the Columbine High School and Virginia Tech had influenced him in killing the victims.

The graphic video of the shooting, that was taken on Flanagan’s cellphone, shows him approaching the news staff during the interview. With his arm stretched, in full view of the camera, he then opens fire on the three people, so far unaware of his presence.

The video was posted to Facebook by Flanagan, who also Tweeted, “I filmed the shooting see Facebook.” Both his Facebook and Twitter accounts had only been created a week before the shootings, according to reports. Prior to the shooting Flanagan had aired his frustrations at his dismissal from the channel. The Twitter account has now been deactivated.

USA Network has not said how the shooting is similar to the scene in the finale. It’s likely that an on-air killing features, and possibly that involves FSociety, the team of hackers led by Mr. Robot, ensuring the world sees its last act – in season one at least.
