iPad Pro latest: LTE support, MacBook pricing, base model 64GB, shipping slightly delayed

Apple’s gargantuan forthcoming mega-tablet the iPad Pro is expected to be revealed September 9, but as we get closer, more details about the device continue to leak.

Described by 9to5Mac as coming with a “monster screen” still expected to come in at 12.9 inches, the iPad Pro is said to be launching with features fitting its name and won’t offer a lower priced version to appeal to the masses.

The report claims that the base model of the iPad Pro will ship with 64GB of storage, four times that offered with the base models of both Apple’s iPhone and current line-up of iPads, and a more expensive model will offer 128GB.

Color lovers won’t miss out with the iPad Pro, said to be shipping in Gold, Silver, and Space Grey variations when it is first launched.

Shipping may have been delayed with claims that the manufacturing of the iPad Pro is behind schedule, however this won’t result in a significant delay with the device shipping late November versus the original expected timing of mid-November; pre-orders will still begin in October.

Pricing is still somewhat of a mystery, but it has been confirmed that a version of the iPad Pro will ship with LTE support and will interestingly “compare closely to Apple’s latest MacBooks,” begging the question we’ve raised before: why would customers buy a tablet running a crippled mobile operating system versus simply buying a fully fledged MacBook offering a keyboard and full-blown operating system instead?

Screen

The description of the screen on the iPad Pro being a monster is apparently justified given what it is said to be able to do; the devices landscape split-screen mode is said to be bolstered, compared to the existing iPad lineup, to allow two full-sized portrait iPad apps to be displayed.

Under the hood the iPad Pro is said to be sporting a A9X chip which is said to be a “large leap” over the Air 2’s A8X, along with four stereo speakers, but only a single Lightning port on the bottom.
