The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Hearts of Stone expansion gets a release date and teaser trailer

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the first expansion to CD Projekt RED’s immensely popular RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and now the Polish studio has finally released details about the upcoming Hearts of Stone expansion, which is set to release on October 13.

Here is CD Projekt’s description of the new content:

Step again into the shoes of Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster slayer, this time hired to defeat a ruthless bandit captain, Olgierd von Everec, a man who possesses the power of immortality. The expansion lets you choose your own way through an adventure that includes recruiting a crew of break-in artists, spending a night partying with a ghost and outsmarting the most bizarre creatures Geralt has ever faced.

Along with adding over 10 hours of new quests, characters and story content, the expansion will also add several new items and abilities. This includes the addition of Runewords, a new system that CD Projket says “significantly affects gameplay.”

“Each Runeword will impact a different aspect of in-game mechanics and will allow the players to experiment with various strategies and tactics,” the studio said in a statement.

Aside from CD Projekt’s brief description, there are currently few details about the plot of the expansion, but the teaser trailer reveals the return of a mysterious character that players met very briefly at the beginning of The Witcher 3.

The Hearts of Stone expansion requires the base game to play and will be available simultaneously on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

You can buy a digital copy of the game on any platform, but CD Projekt will also be offering a limited edition boxed game that comes with several goodies, including:

  • Hearts of Stone digital download code
  • a special collector’s box
  • two Gwent card decks, Monsters and Scoia’tael
  • a Gwent instruction guide
  • several Gwent tokens

Since fans have been begging for a physical version of Gwent, The Witcher 3’s popular card battle minigame, it seems likely that the limited edition will go over quite well with players.
