Microsoft’s new Lumia flagships leaked price: similar cost to an iPhone 6S
It shouldn’t be long now until we see a handful of Microsoft’s newest and most exciting devices. On October 6th it’s expected that Redmond will unveil its Surface Pro 4 laptop; Microsoft Band 2 – which we think we saw for the time recently – and also the long awaited Lumia flagship phones. The phones, Lumia 950 XL (Cityman) and Talkman (Lumia 950), are Microsoft’s chance to show that Windows Phone is alive and well and can duke it out in the smartphone market with the best of them.
In spite of the two flagships – from what we have seen from leaks – looking in good shape, it’s probably fair to say that people would have thought they’d be priced competitively. Well, at least a fair few dollars less than Apple’s new iPhone 6S. But a recent leak from Spanish retailer Ecomputer suggests this is not the case. The site posted a link with price tags for the new phones which was quickly taken down. Before that happened we saw that the Lumia 950 (5.2 inch display) may cost as much as €659 ($722), while its bigger brother the Lumia 95 XL (5.7 inch display) will cost €749 ($833) – in Europe.
These prices are very close to what the iPhone 6S (16GB) will cost in the UK, Germany and France, where the phones because of taxes are more expensive than in the US. It will be interesting to see if the phones do in fact cost this much if they can persuade buyers away from iPhone.
Leaks have shown that both the new Lumia flagships will come with 32GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot. The 950 XL will have a Snapdragon 810, 64-bit Octa core processor, 3GB of RAM, 3300 mAh removable battery and pack a 20MP PureView rear camera with triple LED flash. The 950 will have a Snapdragon 808, 64-bit Hexa core processor, 3GB of RAM, 3000 mAh removable battery and come with a 20MP PureView rear camera. Both phones are expected to feature the biometric sign-in capability Windows Hello.
