Latin America is set for major growth in mobility and IoT, says IDC | #oow15
Latin America is going to be a big market for cloud business next year, especially in the mobility market, according to Alejandro Florean, research and consulting director of enterprise solutions, Latin America, at IDC Research, Inc. (IDC).
“By 2018, at least 50 percent of the market will be mobile in Latin America,” Florean told John Furrier and Brian Gracely, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during Oracle OpenWorld 2015. “This will be a big shift in how to do several activities in the region, especially in the bigger countries like Brazil, Mexico, Argentina …”
Florean noted there are key differences between the cloud market in the U.S. and the cloud market in Latin America. He explained that the big enterprise companies in Latin America have already adapted to the cloud, but the real growth opportunity for companies like Oracle will be in small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).
“The SMB space is maybe low in terms of adoption, but compared to the U.S., SMBs are a big opportunity for Oracle in Latin America,” Florean said.
In terms of which industries are currently presenting major opportunities for Oracle, Florean pointed to the energy industry, especially oil and gas, as a key market for the company. “In our opinion, they are the most important industry around [Internet of Things] adoption in Latin America,” he stated.
