Vine gets more personalized with a curated ‘For You’ channel

To help users discover the best videos that are available on Vine, the company has launched a new ‘For You’ channel. Rolling out to iOS users first, you will now see a new section at the top of your screen when you open up Vine. The company will display videos here that it thinks matches with your interests. Tap the ‘For You’ channel and you can explore the various videos that Vine has curated for you and ones that it thinks you will love.

The company did not disclose the algorithm that it will use to generate your personalized ‘For You’ channel. The company is likely to base their selection on the Vines that you watched or favorited over time as well as the people who you are currently following, among other criteria.

“Our home feeds on Vine are filled with posts from the accounts we follow across comedy, music, sports and more. The world of entertainment on Vine extends far beyond our home feeds,” API engineer Luis Tandalla wrote in a Vine blog post. “There’s a ton of great content created by accounts you may not follow, and we’re bringing those posts to you.”

Vine’s new ‘For You’ channel will help you discover videos that you may not have come across otherwise. It works in a similar way to Twitter’s Moments that provides a curated list of Tweets so you can keep up to date on Tweets from people you do not follow. This similarity is not surprising since Twitter owns Vine.

At this stage, Vine’s new ‘For You’ channel is limited to iOS users, but Vine did say that Android would follow soon.
