Big Data analytics provider Tectonic announces new support for Google Cloud Dataproc
Big Data analytics provider Tectonic has announced that it is now providing services for Google’s Cloud Dataproc.
Dataproc launched in beta in September then in general availability in February, and allows users take advantage of open source data tools for batch processing, querying, streaming, and machine learning, complete with automation tools that allow clusters to be created quickly, along with the ability to save money by turning clusters off when they’re not needed.
The service offers managed Hadoop MapReduce, Spark, Pig, and Hive hosting that allows users to easily process big data sets at low costs, and has recently added new features including property tuning, VM metadata and tagging, and cluster versioning.
With their new support for the service, Tectonic will be able to guide enterprises on the best way to adopt Cloud Daraproc, while sharing their own knowledge of the service with customer, best practices in strategy and execution, and thorough knowledge of complementary technologies to assure success in harnessing the full potential of the cloud.
“Cloud Dataproc and Tectonic’s offerings provide a very similar business structure, focused on minimizing cost and complexity,” Tectonic’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer Blair Linville said in a statement sent to SiliconANGLE. “We’re looking forward to working with current and new clients on the expansion of Google Cloud Platform services that allows everyone involved to spend less time on technologies and more time on the development and output of business outcomes through data and insights.”
Serious interest
It probably should go without saying that Tectonic’s decision to support Google Cloud Dataproc is representative of not mild interest in the product, but serious interest in what Google has to offer.
While both Amazon.com, Inc. and Microsoft Corp. offer competing services, one of the big advantages Dataproc offers is that it plays nicely with other Google Cloud services, or as SiliconANGLE’s Mike Wheatley explained in February:
With the launch of Cloud Dataproc into general availability, Google gets another weapon in its armory to take on Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. Both companies offer their own Hadoop-based Big Data services, and there are many startups doing the same thing too. However, Google’s offering is distinct in that it plays nicely with Google’s other cloud services, including Google Cloud Bigtable, BigQuery and Google Cloud Storage.
