Are drones the next big thing in IoT? | #FinTech
Last year Amazon revealed its plan to introduce a service deploying drones to deliver packages to consumers in 30 minutes. While many found the idea high tech and innovative, others wondered at the technical issues involved: How would they keep the drones from crashing into each other? Would it require the company to hire air traffic personnel?
DAO Aira is a new company that claims it can eliminate those problems for Amazon and other companies seeking to make the most of drone technology. Sergei Lonshakov, project architect for DAO Aira said that by using blockchain technology, the company has found ways to automate drone operation and facilitate smart contracts between humans and computers.
Speaking through an interpreter, Lonshakov, originally from Russia, told Jeff Frick, cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, “This makes it autonomous, takes away a lot of the hefty expenses that a centralized organization would have to run.” He said that the key phrase for the company is “autonomous decentralized organization.”
The next step for IoT
Lonshakov contends that the synergy of drones and blockchain technology will take the Internet of Things to the the next level. “It really sets an open space for contracts between robots and humans,” he said.
The intelligence that operates the drones is in a server in San Diego currently but will be built into the drones in the future, said Lonshakov.
