Secrets from the culture of innovation | #GITCatalyst

How can we make this something better? How can we be more than the sum of our parts? Shaking up corporate and startup perceptions and placing awareness on “we” rather than “I” is the focus of coaching and consulting company Opportu.

Hilary Weber, founder and CEO of Opportu, shared her insights with Jeff Frick (@JeffFrick), cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, in an interview at the Girls in Tech Catalyst Conference 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Innovating innovation

Working with both startups and large corporations, Opportu works to “innovate innovation.” With a 95 percent failure rate, startups need to learn how to act like a large corporation without losing their innovative edge, said Weber, and bigger companies that have lost their innovation edge need to get it back.

“Awareness is the first step,” stated Weber, who described the function of a coach as “holding up a mirror.” She gave the example of an apple to illustrate how the view from the inside can be totally different to what an outsider sees: From the inside an apple looks solid white with a few black seeds, but the outside is shiny and red. As an outsider, Weber gives clients a different perspective on their company.

Weber invited theCUBE viewers to take the Root Values Exercise on the Opportu website at: http://www.opportu.com/.
