No development team? Custom workflows may be the answer | #Know16
It’s said again and again these days that every company will have to become an IT company — not great news for those already struggling to pay salaries. Luckily, there are ways you can kick the IT you have up a notch without adding a whole team of developers.
Darrel Popowich, VP of IT at H&R Block Canada, Inc., spoke about the enormous number of tasks his company has to complete each tax season. “I don’t have a big IT team, so we do not do custom development,” he told Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and Jeff Frick (@JeffFrick), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team. “Everything is just figuring out how to use the [ServiceNow] workflow builder.”
Popwich added, “It really is a workflow builder. It’s not just a service management suite,” he said of the ServiceNow platform. He said of his experience building workflows to manage the company’s tasks: “It’s unlike anything I’ve ever had to lead or experience. It is so simple. It is so easy.” He added that the best part is the ability to go back and amend the workflows without disrupting them or changing their overall design.
Changing the game
Popowich said that the ServiceNow platform has enabled his company to do game-changing simplifications for tax filers and tax pros.
“We have changed the way tax pros are supposed to behave by applying key performance metrics to our delivery platform,” he said. “I think that it will completely transform the way we’re able to resolve and solve our tax filers issues.”
