Watch LIVE: Is Hadoop still Big Data’s savior? | #HS16SJ
As industry innovators celebrate Apache Hadoop’s 10-year anniversary this year, conference attendees have gathered at Hadoop Summit US 2016 to discuss how Big Data continues to transform industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, agriculture, the public sector and many more business sectors. Hadoop Summit kicks off today, June 28, at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, CA.
“We’re at a crossroads in the world of Hadoop,” said Peter Burris, chief research officer of SiliconANGLE Media. “We’re getting indications from our conversations with clients that the adoption of Hadoop-related technologies, at least in production, is a little bit more segmented than many people might have thought.”
And according to George Gilbert, senior analyst at Wikibon, there are a few things Hadoop Summit attendees want to hear more about at the event, including making the technology more accessible and reducing the friction to install, deploy and widely utilize it. However, Gilbert did say, “We are hearing more … about relatively faster adoption of Hadoop in the cloud, where some of that friction is reduced.”
Rob Bearden, CEO of Hortonworks, Inc., will be a keynote speaker at the event. Bearden recently talked to SiliconANGLE Media about the power of Hadoop. “Even five years ago, it wasn’t pragmatic to bring that volume of data under management of traditional data platforms,” he said. “As Hadoop emerged as an enterprise-viable data platform, you could now bring that data under management for a fraction of the cost of managing and processing it.”
Joining Bearden as keynote speakers at the event are Arun Murthy, cofounder of Hortonworks; Joseph Sirosh, corporate VP of the Data group at Microsoft; Peter Monaco, VP of Engineering for Communications Products At Yahoo!; James Malone, product manager of the Google Cloud Platform; and consultant and futurist Ben Hammersley, as well as many others.
