Mercedes & Microsoft launch ‘In Car Office,’ so you can work on the go
German automaker Mercedes-Benz, a division of Daimler AG, and Microsoft are partnering up to enable drivers to be more productive while on the road and away from the office.
The new feature called “In Car Office” was announced at IFA 2016, currently underway in Berlin, Germany and will bring various productivity features to your Mercedes-Benz dashboard.
With “In Car Office,” Microsoft Exchange will be integrated into the car’s dashboard allowing drivers to view their work calendar. The integration of Microsoft Exchange will also allow the Mercedes-Benz to be able to alert drivers about an upcoming conference call and automatically provide them with navigational directions to their next appointment. Based on drivers’ to-do lists, the car will also provide suggestions regarding calls they can make while driving to their next destination.
This is not the first time that Microsoft has teamed up with automotive companies to bring its productivity tools into cars. At CES 2016, the company announced partnerships with Harman International Industries Inc. and Volvo Group to bring its productivity tools into vehicles, its first step into the connected car market.
Peggy Johnson, executive vice president of development at Microsoft, spoke about a person’s car becoming an alternative office for drivers back in June. “You’re sitting in the car for many, many minutes a day. Can that be part of your new office, can it be your new desk, a place where you actually get work done? We believe it can.“
The “In Car Office” feature will go live in Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the first half of 2017.
