Software portfolio manager SoftwareOne strengthens ties with AWS | #reInvent

SoftwareONE AG recently announced that it had strengthened its ties to Amazon Web Services LLC, making it easier for customers to move workloads to the public cloud. SoftwareONE’s portfolio is rapidly shifting, with 10-15 percent of its clients’ enterprise software now on the cloud, and most of that is on AWS. So an alliance with AWS was a natural progression for the company, according to Mike Gersten, global innovations and platforms officer at SoftwareONE.

“Clients are looking to their software asset management company to provide them with a single view. Our ultimate vision is to provide the full view into our software portfolios; we look at ourselves as an aggregator,” said Gersten.

Gersten and Lawrence Schwartz, CMO at SoftwareONE, joined John Furrier (@furrier), co-host of theCUBE*, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during AWS re:Invent, held in Las Vegas, NV. As this is the first AWS re:Invent in which SoftwareONE has participated, Gersten and Schwartz had some observations about the conference, as well as thoughts around the new world of software management in the cloud.

New platform lead to new solutions

Gersten and Schwartz both agreed that there’s a lot of hype around AWS and a great vibe to the conference. “[There are] 30,000 people building solutions on a platform that didn’t exist 10 years ago,” said Gersten.

Schwartz added that as AWS continues to roll out more services and more opportunities over time, people will continue to innovate on AWS’ platform; “It’s here to stay,” said Schwartz. He added that as AWS is a new platform for SoftwareOne, it’s really great to engage with current and potential customers in an informal manner.

PyraCloud Platform

SoftwareONE AG is the provider of the PyraCloud Platform, a software portfolio management methodology to help clients manage and establish a structured, thoughtful software portfolio. PyraCloud helps to manage the entire lifecycle of on-prem software and provides insights into the best options and consumption as workloads shift to the cloud.

This allows companies to accurately forecast, budget and procure software assets, maximizing return on investment and allocating more resources and efforts to driving innovation, according to Gersten.
