Zenefits expands its HR platform with new apps, integrations
When Zenefits Inc. redesigned its workforce management platform last November, the move was hailed as a milestone for the company’s efforts to get back on the saddle. But the upgrade was only the first step in a broader effort aimed at extending the cloud suite’s reach to new areas.
Zenefits crossed two more use cases off its checklist today after launching a pair of new tools designed to help human resources teams better meet regulatory obligations. The first and arguably most notable addition is Zenefits Document App, which is designed to serve as a centralized repository for personnel records. It’s a direct extension of what the company set out to do with last year’s overhaul: turn its platform into an “employee system of record” that stands at the center of its client companies’ HR operations.
The Documents App puts this concept to practice by automatically archiving new hire forms, promotion letters and other documents processed in Zenefits for later use. HR staff can use the service to quickly bring up the files associated with a given employee when they require administrative help. Moreover, a built-in analytics capability makes it possible to quickly identify missing data and other inconsistencies that may violate regulatory requirements.
The Document Apps should come handy in a wide range of environments. Large companies might simply use the service to organize their massive personnel document troves, while small businesses can use it alongside the Compliance Assistant App, the other new tool that Zenefits launched today.
Compliance Assistant is geared towards up-and-coming ventures where manpower is too scarce to spend on menial administrative work. The service aims to reduce the number of person-hours required for the task by displaying filing deadlines for benefits, payroll and other documents in Zenefits. HR personnel can also create custom entries to address internal procedures that are specific to their companies.
One area where Compliance Assistant should be particularly useful is managing the documents involved in recruiting. The app can flag what forms need to be filed after a new hire, display the time frame in which they need to be sent to the government and even specify how long a company should hold onto each document.
Zenefits hopes to cover a lot of ground with today’s expansion, but it’s not looking to address every single aspect of HR work by itself. Outgoing Chief Executive David Sacks said after last year’s overhaul that his company will rely on partners and third-party applications for tasks that fall too far beyond its platform’s core focus.
In that spirit, Zenefits is pairing the two apps with a new application programming interface designed to let companies create custom connectors for workloads that are not supported out of the box. It’s joined by ready-made integrations with Box, Lyft, Zapier and a number of other popular cloud services. Zenefits claims that its platform can now plug into 26 third-party applications and support for 50 more is currently in the works.
