Sortd aims to make Slack more organized with task management overlay
Just like with email, staying on top of all the messages in a Slack room can often be difficult for users, especially if they’re part of a large team that uses multiple channels. Sortd Pty Ltd. believes that it has the answer.
The South African startup is bringing its widely used task management overlay for Gmail to Slack in an effort to help workers make the chat window more organized. According to TechCrunch, the service takes the form of a custom launcher that follows the same basic formula as third-party social media clients. The core Slack controls appear just like they do in the native desktop version, except the Sortd logo is displayed at the top while its productivity features are blended into the interface.
One of the client’s most prominent features is a sidebar that can be toggled from right to left and serves as a to-do list for tracking outstanding tasks. After receiving an important message, a user may drag it to the panel and have the entry automatically added to the top of the agenda. It’s possible to check an item off the list after it has been completed by clicking on a tick box that appears next to each bullet point.
Items that require more careful handling can be organized in a full-screen task board that works much like Trello. Sortd provides the ability to group entries in columns based on their category, share the agenda with colleagues and individually assign tasks to specific personnel. If an item is particularly important, a manager can configure the client to generate a reminder after a certain of time.
Sortd touts its new tool as a more convenient alternatives to Trello and other task management services that can only accessed via a chatbot in Slack. It’s available in three editions ranging from a free plan with limited capabilities to the full-featured Team version, which is priced at $8 per user per month.
