Is software the Miracle-Gro for startups and legacy companies alike?

Technology companies today are more richly webbed to one another than before, which multiplies their paths to expansion — and software is at the heart of this, said Christie Simons (pictured, right), partner and technology industry leader at Deloitte & Touche LLP.

Simons spoke about her role with Deloitte, consulting on the development of technology companies, during the recent Association for Corporate Growth in Silicon Valley’s U.S. Trust GROW! Awards event in Mountain View, California.

“A lot of them are startup companies, which is really the sweet spot of ACG, and it’s why we’re so involved with ACG,” Simons told Lisa Martin (@Luccazara) (pictured, left), host of of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile live streaming studio (*Disclosure below).

Fortunately, these young companies are entering an arena where software is fusing them to other technology companies, as well as diverse industries, Simons stated.

“When you think about financial services — FinTech; when you think about life sciences — health tech; when you think about retail — you’ve got internet,” she said.

Nvidia, winner of this year’s ACG Outstanding Growth Award, is seeing their graphics processing units subsumed into areas their makers likely did not imagine up until recently — namely artificial intelligence.

Twilio Inc., a cloud platform for software developers and winner of the ACG 2017 Emerging Growth Award, is perhaps in an even better position to absorb the benefits of this increasing overlap.

“That convergence of all the industries that’s happening — a lot of that is a result of software and the developers who are creating that software. Twilio is providing a platform for that communication,” Simons concluded.
