With 10M users, AI-powered women’s health app Flo raises $5M

The makers of Flo, a women’s health app that is powered by artificial intelligence, announced today that they have closed a $5 million early funding round that will allow them to continue expanding their platform.

The Series A round was led by Flint Capital and Natalia Vodianova, a Russian supermodel and activist who will be joining Flo’s board of directors. The financing brings total funding to $6 million.

Launched in 2016, Flo uses AI to help women keep track of different aspects of their health, including their menstrual cycle, ovulation, menopause symptoms and more. Using neural networks, Flo helps women predict when their next period will start down to the day. The app also provides detailed analytics that show personalized health tips and recurring patterns.

“When I started using Flo, I became very impressed with its accuracy, amazing insights, and most importantly, the community of women freely and supportively talking with each other on the most important and often silenced subjects – menstruation, women’s health and motherhood,” said Vodianova.

According to the company, the Flo app now has more than 10 million monthly active users, and it is the most-downloaded health and fitness app on Apple’s U.S. App Store. The startup plans to use its new funding to continue growing its platform and expanding in the U.S. market, and it also hopes to partner with medical research centers and universities to promote female health science. Flo said in a statement that its ultimate goal is to become the top female health platform in the world with more than 100 million users.

Flo founder and Chief Executive Yuri Gurski says that the app is “a strong tool for preventive medicine,” and women can use it to “better understand their body, feel calm and confident about their health.”

Flo is only one of many AI-powered health platforms. Other uses for AI in the health industry include everything from managing health records to diagnosing cancer.
