Postman brings API development tools to the enterprise
With application program interfaces becoming a mainstay of communication among applications, Postdot Technologies Inc. has introduced a version of its Postman API development environment designed specifically for use by large organizations.
Postman Enterprise, announced late last week, features better security than the company’s free single-user platform with enterprise-only features like single sign-on access control, audit logs and static IP addresses. This new release builds upon Postman Pro, which was introduced in late 2016 and added collaboration tools that let developers share test cases as well as work together on documentation and API monitoring. Like any software, APIs need to be tested to ensure that they return the correct data and don’t conflict with other programs.
Postman said its free edition is the most popular API tool in the world, with 5 million developers in more than 100,000 companies. The browser plug-in was developed six years ago as a graphical user interface-based replacement for the command-line Curl data transfer tool. It supports the entire API lifecycle, including design, mock-ups, debugging, testing, documentation, monitoring and publication.
SSO support in Postman Enterprise is compatible with existing identity management systems from Okta Inc., OneLogin Inc., Duo Security Inc., Ping Identity Corp., Microsoft Corp. and Google LLC, as well as others that support the Security Assertion Markup Language. Audit logs in the enterprise edition enable users to review every change, see who made it and when it was made in a single view. There’s also dedicated support, installation help and multiple billing options available depending on corporate policies.
Pricing starts at $21 per user per month, with a 15-user minimum.
