Cisco’s CloudCenter geared to support businesses on multicloud journey
As more enterprises move workloads into multiple clouds, the need to manage that infrastructure has become greater. To meet this demand, Cisco Systems Inc. has created CloudCenter, a multicloud management tool designed to provide preconfigured integration capabilities for a number of cloud platforms.
“CloudCenter manages over 15 clouds today,” said Zach Kielich (pictured, right), senior product line manager at Cisco. “By abstracting and normalizing all of those application programming interfaces underneath, we’re actually able to make it so you can model the application once and deploy it anywhere.”
Kielich spoke with Lisa Martin (@LuccaZara), host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, and guest host John Troyer (@jtroyer), chief reckoner at TechReckoning, during the VMworld conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was joined by Kurt Milne (pictured, left), manager of product marketing at Cisco, and they discussed the benefits of using CloudCenter for container deployments and a recent acquisition designed to optimize cloud performance and costs. Support for Kubernetes deployments
Managing resources in Kubernetes deployments occasionally requires “yaml” files, a data serialization language. To make this process easier for developers, Cisco’s CloudCenter streamlines the programming interface.
“If it’s a Kubernetes environment, then CloudCenter writes the yaml file specific to that deployment,” Milne explained. “So it really takes a lot of the burden away from developers having to learn yaml.”
In December, Cisco acquired Cmpute.io in a move to help customers better optimize cloud computing costs. Cmpute.io’s software-as-a-service platform has been added to CloudCenter as a way to facilitate cost reduction, performance boosts and scheduling.
“Everybody is interested in saving money in the public cloud,” Kielich said. “As soon as they start to mature, they realize they always get the bill regardless of whether they get the value out of it.”
