Automation brings with it the ‘gift of time’ for enterprise growth

As automation gains interest throughout the enterprise, it’s changing the way businesses operate their computing infrastructures, freeing up time to focus technology resources on new ways to grow. This automated “gift of time,” along with other advancements such as multicloud solutions and 5G networks, ensure faster and faster growth — if a company can truly get on board. So what does it take?

“What we’re seeing and what we’re getting feedback from our customers on is that because of that gift of time, they’re able to now focus on pushing their businesses forward,” said Peter Sprygada (pictured), distinguished engineer at Ansible by Red Hat Inc. “They’re starting to solve challenges that have always been on that traditional ever-growing tasklist.”

Sprygada spoke with Stu Miniman (@stu) and Lisa Martin (@LisaMartinTV), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, during the Cisco Live event in San Diego, California. They discussed automation and the way automation, multicloud and 5G will help companies expand in the future (see the full interview with transcript here). (* Disclosure below.)

New mindset, new language required for automation

So how does a company begin thinking through automation in order to gain back valuable time? It takes an entirely new way of thinking and communication to help integrate automation into a company’s IT ecosystem, according to Sprygada. Red Hat acquired IT automation tool Ansible in 2015 to help companies do just that.

“Automation is really more a state of mind, not necessarily a state of action,” Sprygada said. “Therefore, we spend a lot of time with our customers to understand how do they run their business and how can automation become a way that they think about running their organization?”

Automation is not just a networking tool, according to Sprygada. Automation could happen anywhere within a company. This is why the mindset around automation is huge, as well as the language around the idea of automation.

“Whether you’re looking at infrastructure, whether you’re looking at hybrid cloud — what we do is, we bring a language to the operations team where you can get these to separate teams talking in a dialect that they can understand each other. And that’s really what Ansible starts to bring to those organizations,” Sprygada concluded.
