Xeround Integrates MySQL DBaaS with Two Developer Platforms
Traditional database vendor-turned cloud DB service provider Xeround said that it’s making its database-as-a- service for MySQL apps available on two additional platforms. It will be offered in the form of an add-on for AppHarbor .NET, as well as AppFog’s PHP environment.
This opens up the solution to two rather broad demographics of developers. The bundled services will now let users of both platforms connect a database hosted by Xeround to their apps, and fire it up with minimal hassle. The automation is only one side of the coin though–there’s also the fact that a cloud-optimized DB can easily outperform a more dated alternative (which would also require a little bit more work on the developer’s end).
“Xeround’s service as an add-on for AppHarbor and PHP Fog showcases our traction and the increasing demand for developing MySQL apps on multiple cloud platforms,” said Razi Sharir, CEO of Xeround. “Now even more developers can develop in the cloud using their chosen platform and enjoy the no-downtime guarantee and true elasticity of Xeround’s service.”
AppHarbor and PHP Fog are now members of a longer support list that also includes AWS, Rackspace and (perhaps not all that surprisingly) HP Cloud Services, too. The add-ons for the newest to the roster offer three different plans for devs to choose from, including the most recently introduced free option.
Xeround Free was a big gesture towards developers, considering that it marked the first time the company loosened up its pay wall. The move was publicized just a few months after Xeround pulled in $9 million from VCs, and embraced the cloud whole-heartedly in its press materials. The funding was very much about getting the resources to carry out this shift that was apparently years in the making.
