Mind Mapping Apps Top this Week’s Tablet Business App Roundup
This week’s roundup has two featured apps, both of which happen to be in the same category. MindNode for iPad and MindJet for Android are two mind-mapping apps that respectively offer a unique twist to the same concept, which is providing users with an environment that lets them put ideas on paper (so to speak) with just a few simple taps.
MindNode’s developers envisioned a product that is as a clean as possible – supplying a lot of breathing space while also staying aesthetic. That sums up the app fairly as well, with its canvas-like background and branching system.
MindJet in turn focuses more on practically than looks. Its interface resembles your traditional text editor than anything else, and is built to not only allow you to draft a a concept but also to share it, export it and sync it across your devices.
iPad
MindNode features a tree mechanism that lets you create minimalistic-looking chart for a myriad of different cases – it’s possible to lay out a travel plan, or create a chore list by order. It syncs with Dropbox, automatically expands the workspace so that the user doesn’t have to and overall makes things as simple as possible.
Corny name aside, iMargin is a four and a half star app for a reason. It’s a calculator for business owners that allows them to find out the profit on a certain sale with minimum hassle thanks to a built in currency converter, a tax calculator and even visualizations. Customized, color-code calculators can also be created for different merchandise.
Converge can come in very handy for travelers. It tells you whether or not your carrier covers the area you’re travelling to, and the fact that all of the maps are stored locally eliminates the need for but the most minimal amount of foresight. The app covers 2G, 3G and LTE, and claims to be unique in the App Store.
Android
MindJet is a different flavor of MindNode. It may not be as visually appealing but it lets you add attachments to individual notes while featuring advanced tagging capabilities, support for finger gesture and Dropbox integration. It connects to the Conspire blog as well and can open any PDFs or text files that are stored on the site.
Plume is a very popular Twitter client that can simplify image management by a great deal. It adds a lot of value by featuring not only real-time sync with the social network but also a timeline, widgets, a highly customizable UI and the ability to support multiple accounts.
